THIS IS WHAT REAL MENTORSHIP LOOKS LIKE
Mentorship

A mentor is committed, caring and invaluable on the path to success. ArtWorks makes sure Resident Associates have access to experienced advice. Each Resident Associate is evaluated and matched with a senior attorney. This mentor becomes more than a friend, but an anchor in the Resident Associate’s journey. From lunch meetings to discuss a case, to invites to special events, mentors help program Resident Associates feel supported in managing clients and sharpening their legal skills. There is a requirement of two meetings per month in the first month. Thereafter, the mentor/mentee will find the right balance that works for their unique relationship.

Business Development

The purpose of the program is to provide strong professional business development necessary to keep up with the trends and changes of the legal industry. Each Resident Associate is required to meet with their business-development team once each month for the entire 9-month term. The mentor is invited to these team meetings, as these meetings function to establish and check business-growth benchmarks and monitor progress. In addition to the individually-focused team meetings, the program includes several required CLE-styles workshops. These workshops cover topics such as client development and management, billing practices, financial grounding, debt management, etc.

Opportunities to Practice

This aspect of the program is essential! It allows Resident Associates to put their hands in the clay, so to speak. Not only are they required to work on IP matters, they are expected to take on at least one non-IP project. This requirement not only serves to diversify their resume, it is an opportunity to develop relationships outside of their chosen practice area. In some cases, this has allowed Resident Associates to explore a practice area they were curious about. One Resident Associate even switched gears fully and decided to pursue a career in criminal law.

Skills and Personal Development

In addition to the individually focused team meetings, the program includes several required CLE-styled workshops. These workshops cover topics such as client management, financial grounding, debt management, and interweaves personal development skills as the necessary glue.
